Hall of Kings

The Hall of Kings is the great royal court of the Northlands. It has been the home of the Crystal Throne since the founding of the kingdom, but it has undergone numerous expansions and reconstructions. The Hall stands over eighty feet high, with a ceiling of vaulted arches and columns up to ten feet across. Massive stained glass windows depicting patron saints of the north cause the entire room to seem alight with shifting colors. Between each window hang the banners of the great houses, with the banners of their sworn swords displayed beneath them. The Crystal Throne itself sits on a raised dais beneath a dome of gold and glass, with mirrors strategically arranged to direct light into the throne itself, causing it to scintillate constantly.

The Hall of Kings gets its name from the statues that line balconies throughout the hall. Every time a king of the Northlands dies, a statue of his likeness is added to the hall so the fallen liege can join his predecessors in overseeing his successor. It is said that those who are unfit to rule can feel the kings of old judging them, until their spirits break and they descend into paranoia.
